The Shawshank Redemption. I wasn’t keen on watching a prison based movie originally but as it was based on a story by Stephen King I thought I’d give it a go. I was an emotional mess by the end and it stayed with me for years afterwards.

Breaking Bad. It’s not often I root for the bad guys but I really took Jesse and Walter into my heart. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul were incredible and it’s one box set I will watch again.

Anyone who has read my books knows I am quite emotional for a crime writer so I feel no shame (or maybe just a little) for saying The Famous Five. Not strictly detective I know but they solved more mysteries than most and it was my love of this series that sparked my passion for writing.

I almost choked to death after part of a Cadbury’s Crème Egg got lodged in my throat. I thought afterwards if that was in a book you’d dismiss it as ridiculous.

Write the story you want to read. If I had sat and really thought about genres and the marketing aspect of blending psychological thrillers with emotional story lines and characters I’d perhaps never have written the books I have.
